The Manuscript Codex * Binding
DOUBLURE EXTENSION LEAF

To create a unified aesthetic appearance, the same paper or leather used to cover the doublure is also used to create an adjoining leaf for the textblock, as if the doublure was extended onto that leaf. This leaf of covering material is often adhered totally or along the spine-fold to the first/last leaf of the textblock. Especially when completely lined with a leaf from the textblock, the integral connection of the constituent parts of the hybrid structure functions to reinforce the connection between the binding and the textblock.
